To many foreigners (or farangs as they are locally called) dating a local Thai woman can easily amount to a very frustrating experience as they experiment with what may or may not work here. For those of you who have tried and remain baffled here are a few pointers that might get you started somewhere:

1.Talk and take things slowly: Always remember that you are in a non- English speaking country and even if you are lucky enough to get a girl who can converse in speaking English she may, generally speaking never be as good as you. So slow down your pace and let her understand what you are speaking. 90 percent of relationship problems occur because of misunderstood communication.

2. Don't think that the same methods of courting will work here to: Too many people end up thinking that whatever method that worked back home will work here to. This is wrong, remember that you are in a different country with a different culture; Thai girls for one are much more conservative than their western counterpart. They expect their partners to be kind, generous, responsible and polite you will have to show them these qualities if you want to impress them.

3. Show care for her country and culture: As a people the Thai are very proud of their culture. Probably the first thing that you will notice when you arrive in Thailand is the utter respect that the Thai people have for their King. Even the slightest sign of disrespect here will not only mean a breakup, it may actually mean serious trouble!

4. Do realize that if she accepts you as her boy friend she will be thinking of marrying you one day: Dating here is taken very seriously and if you think you can get away with an easy break-up, think again. If a girl has accepted you then she is seriously thinking about getting married to you, so don't take your relationship too lightly.

5. She will any day prefer a faithful poor guy to an unfaithful rich snob: This particular requirement isn't new to Thailand as any woman will prefer a faithful partner, but if the bug of being a rich farang should ever bite you, do remember that a decent girl here will not consider you at all should you show her the money.

6. Never invite her to a Bar/Disco at the first date: Most girls will prefer a quite romantic setting to a noisy sweaty joint.

7. Give her a few gifts from time to time: Girls in Thailand are romantic in nature and a good gift from time to time will go a long way in making your relationship more memorable.

All in all, you will have to show and prove that you are a gentleman to your date to win her over. You will realize that Thai girls are extremely feminine in their attitude and can good, attentive and caring partners.
